1. On a rainy Tuesday, Duc realised his wallet was missing as he reached the ticket barrier.

2. Inside were his ID card, his bank card and, worse, the photo of his late father.

3. He retraced his steps for almost an hour without success.

4. That evening, a stranger called him: she had found the wallet outside a bakery.

5. She had tracked him down through a library card with his name on it.

6. Duc offered her a reward, but she refused and simply asked him to help someone else one day.

7. Two months later, he returned a phone he found on a bus — and understood exactly why she had smiled.
